A Meditation Before Council Selection

O God, my God, we want you first and last,

Cause you know our whole past

When we see all your creatures,

consider their features,

we all want to know,

O God how does your Spirit flow?

Can the voice from the Cross

overcoming our loss

cry out with our name,

Tend the poor and the lame!

This dusty road we walk

Christ, make it more than talk

Break each heart wide open

Illuminate our searching, groping

We hear this call of poverty,

We see the harsh reality,

All creatures of our God most high,

We greet the ones who are born to die.

Even so another story

Of creation called to glory

Life of Christ poured out

As the cosmos joins to shout

Called to face a sacred mystr’y

Pouring life into history

comes the cry “rebuild, rebuild”

till our hearts and spirits filled

Enter now the praying cave

pray the Lord our souls to save

Grant us wisdom, grant us sight

Flood our senses with holy light

Now the time of soundless grace

Now the time of wondering pace

Now the hour of prayer begun

Now victory over death is won

God is ready, God is here,

God is speaking, casts out fear

Brothers and Sisters, let us listen.
